Our family loved Starbucks’ French toast so much that we were inspired to cook our own! We wanted to get that satisfying taste that is neither soggy nor dry. A toast that is not too oily or soaked to the point that it no longer seems like a toast anymore.
At first, we tried to follow some of the recipes available on the internet that tried to also come up with a toast that is similar to the one on Starbucks. However, although we followed the instructions to the best of our ability, the result was still short of the bread we liked to have with our coffee.
We experimented on this and tried to cook the toast using a pan. That didn’t quite work with us.
What succeeded was our recipe using our air fryer!
So here it goes. Below are the ingredients we actually used when we made some French toast at home:
4 thick slices of bread
2 eggs
3 tbsp of butter
3 tbsp evaporated milk
3 tbsp sugar
(optional)
grated cheese
cinnamon
In our previous attempts, we realized that it is better to use thick slices of bread. That’s the type we usually find at Starbucks anyway. Thick slices would absorb more of the ingredients we wanted without getting too soaked. This would also ensure that they don’t get easily burnt! As such, we’d have a toast that is crispy on the outside but still fluffy on the inside.
Cooking Instructions:
1. First, gather all of the ingredients above. As emphasized, it is better to use thick slices of bread. It is also good to use large eggs for the quantity above. For the sugar, we used washed sugar or the one that is light brown in color. However, you don’t have to be limited by that. Choose any type of sugar you want.
There are also optional ingredients like cheese and cinnamon for added flavor to your toast. We added some to ours and we loved it!
2. Beat the eggs well in a bowl.
3. Mix the beaten eggs with the other ingredients.
4. Soak the slices of bread for a few minutes. (Don’t soak the bread too long!)
Per our experience, soaking for about 3 to 5 minutes would be okay.
5. Put the bread on your air fryer and set it to cook for 10 minutes at 190 degrees Celsius.
6. After 10 minutes, you can now enjoy this Starbucks-inspired French toast in the comfort of your own home.
7. Eat it as a snack or anytime you like. We prefer having a cup of coffee with it for the perfect vibes!
Note: Just in case you don't have an air fryer or you simply prefer to use your oven, you can cook this for about 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. Those were the settings we used when we tried to prepare this French toast using our oven.
